Could GM Say Yes? The Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS! For 2014?

Well I found this image on an automotive Facebook page while car surfing - my daily, time consuming habit. I clicked on the image, and saved it to my desktop for further inspection. Upon my subsequent inspection of zooming in and panning around on the image, I came to the conclusion that rather than a rendering, it is a Photoshop job. And that's because I realized that it has old rims as well as left over lower body pieces from a previous Chevy Monte Carlo model. However, irregardless of whatever Photoshop job this is, I am really digging it, it is quite unique! I love the huge grille cut into the lower front fascia - very truck-ish! I have never seen it like that on any Chevy models to date. It adds anelement of ultra aggression and massive horsepower, which by extension, is also visualized due to the huge bulge in the hood. And further adding to this is the racing stripes on top that enforce a visualization of speed!

Furthermore, with this design of a new Chevrolet Monte Carlo, it seems that the artist combined the pre-2012 Dodge Charger body design with a Chevy Monte Carlo body. That was very clever! This Dodge Charger influence can be seen in the rear rump, the rear profile (including the spoiler), the roofline, as well as in the design of the greenhouse or windows area. The headlamps, with the rectangular prismic design, resembles that of the 1983-1986 model Monte Carlo - a car which was really cool looking - infact almost better looking than all the rest of the models that followed! Hate to say that GM, but that's just what it is! The rest of those Monte Carlo models were just bland, un-artistic garbage that is worthy of being riddled and pierced to pieces with bullets from a .50 caliber machine gun. I can just picture myself doing it too. You know, that gunners area on top of the army Hummve (hahaha) Ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta!

Well anyway, let me give you a brief synopsis of the history of the Chevrolet Monte Carlo car. The Monte Carlo was developed by Chevy as a competitor for the Ford Thunderbird. It began its run in 1970 and continued for over 30 years later, until 2007. Below are pictures of the enitre model progression in resume-type chronological order. (Following this line-up is a highly detailed design analysis of some of the Monte Carlos).

6th Generation (production run 2006 - 2007)

Notice the sweeping lines on the side body panels.

6th Generation (production run: 2000 - 2005)

Notice the sweeping lines on the side body panels.

5th Generation (production run: 1995 - 1999)

Now this model is a bit interesting. Notice that this is the only Monte Carlo that doesn't have the sweeping lines on the side body panels! It looks like it veered from the pack? Right? What occurred was the then Chevy Lumina sedan was split into two models. The 4-door sedan was kept as a Chevy Lumina, and a 2-door variant or coupe was labeled as the Monte Carlo.

4th Generation (production run: 1983 - 1986)
Notice the sweeping lines on the side body panels, albeit a bit more subtle

4th Generation (production run:1984 -1988)
Notice the sweeping lines on the side body panels

3rd Generation (production run: 1979)
(Notice the sweeping lines on the side body panels, and it is outlined)

3rd Generation (production run: 1978 - 1980)
(Notice the sweeping lines on the side body panels, albeit a bit more subtle. They're almost disguised by the reflections on the surface).

2nd Generation (Production run: 1977)
(Notice the sweeping lines on the side body panels, they are more pronounced, in addition to being highlighted by an outline).

2nd Generation (production run: 1976)
(Notice the sweeping lines on the side body panels, and they are a bit more pronounced, as they bulge alot).

2nd Generation (production run 1975)
(Notice the sweeping lines on the side body panels,  are a bit more pronounced -bulgin - here too).

2nd Generation (production run 1975)
(Notice the sweeping lines on the side body panels,  are a bit more pronounced - bulging - here too).

2nd Generation: (production run: 1972)
(Notice how the sweeping lines on the side body panels are more dashing)!

1st Generation (1973 - 1977)
(Notice the sweeping lines on the side body panels,  are a bit more pronounced -bulgin - here too).

1st Generation (production run: 1970 - 1972)
(Notice the sweeping lines in succeeding models are pronounced in comparison to this one).

Now let me go over a few of the Monte Carlo models which appeal to me and those which don't and why.

This model isn't too bad....but still a loser anyway!

This model is a loser period!

Look at this picture, it is just so ugly...well no fugly! It looks like "a fish outta water"!

The other two Monte Carlos that I like are the very first 1st generation version (1970), and the 3rd generation 1983 -1988 version. That 1970 version looks dashing I like how the entire body looks like it is an  animation of the sweeping sculpted effects on the sides. It looks lit just wants to take off. I can just hear the engine go "rag-a-ragga rag-a-ragga rag-a-ragga into floored-pedal oblivion!

The 1983-1986 model has that fast, dashing look to it as well. That aspect is gained primarily from the forward slant of the rear profile. It appears ready to tear off the pavement. When I was a kid, every weekend, especially on a Sunday, I used to see that car tearing down the street in front of my house at withering speed!

Another Monte Carlo that I liked alot was the 95 production run. I remember first seeing it as a kid, as I was paging through a National Geographic magazine. The thing that I liked about this car was its overall swift aesthetic - this is achieved without a rear lean-forward profile). Everything looks like it is rushing towards the front headlamps. If you observe closely, that longitudinal line right below the door handles, is a principal player in this achievement. Infact, wait a minute, it is all about this, because if I visually subtract it with my eyes, the car appears less swift! Another thing that I liked about the car was the wheel arches. They werent the usual circular design, but rather kind of squarish - kind of SUV-ish. And in addition, they didn't hug the tires, there's a little bit of space between it and the tire itself. That design lends to a cruising-at-high-speed look.

Now back to the future! Well, at least an attempt to get there!

  11. I'm more than happy to admit that everyone is entitled to their own oppinion, but if you truely believe the the gen 5 is a better looking car than the 00-05 gen 6, then I don't put much into your oppinion. Yes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but DAMN! During the 44 years of my life, I grew up in the back seat of a '77, dated in an '87 SS, and currently own an '84 and '86 SS, a '99, and an '02 Earnhardt edition. Yeah, I know my Monte's. Where the '99 is a decent car for my daughter, the '02 is a far superior machine in looks and build. I love seeing a gen 5 come in the shop doors of the dealership I work in. If I had them lined up for a week, I could take the rest of the month off. But, each to their own.

  14. I have a 03 Monte SS loaded, and in my opinion there never was a 4th gen. that was the continuing of a Lumina Coupe with a wrong name plate. Although I feel different about the 06, 07 Monte/Impala. Although the 6 gage instrument cluster is not available in either Lumina or Impala gen. Monte's. They are all nice large sporty 2 doors, but I would have to say the most distinct look is the 00-05 Monte Carlo since the 80's. Just not into chopped off 4 doors. But the V8 in 07 with only 10k produced does have me interested!

  16. I think its funny how he is bashing the 00-05 montes looks and showing where no design effort was done but really they didnt change alot of the design for the 06 and 07 mainly the most notiable the front clip. which you can actually swap onto a 00-05 quite easily.

  17. I also own a 03 Monte Carlo SS (like that yellow 1, but mine is red)

I haven't had any major issues with it (few check engine lights along with the thermostat that had to be replaced, plus some dents on the fender for "character" NOT MY FAULT) I agree SOME things could be "pimped up" on it, but with the age and mileage growing, I rather leave it original so when the engine dies, I can get rid of it ASAP.

  18. I'm a senior citizen with a 07 Monte Carlo SS. Love the gas mileage from the "displacement on demand" V-8, However what I love more is surprising young guys in Mustang's at the stop light

  19. Wow! How far off base can one person be? I have owned every generation of Monte Carlo. Until you have at least driven one, I don’t feel you should comment as an authority figure. Just an opinion from a nobody know nothing. That’s all his article is. The 6th generation competes with the 4th for style. Kills it in maneuverability and stable handling. How many people commenting even know the rear axle on the 6th generation is shorter than the front? Until you know your facts; keep opinions to yourself. You will seem less the fool. This guy commenting on the Monte Carlo would be like me commenting on ANY Ford. I'm clueless about Ford. So in the future Mr. Jap crap driver. Keep your hatred of American made Icons to yourself. By the way. This design is as about as far as you can get from a Monte Carlo, exempting the 5th Generation. There are a vast amount of Monte Carlo designs that rival any Monte Carlo Generation without jeopardizing its mystique and long lines. As for me.You can keep this design. For all you Monte Carlo lovers. The Monte Carlo badge will NEVER be used by Chevy again. That was a comment made several times by GM brass. If you’re looking for style of the Monte Carlo. Hope for the Chevelle badge to come back. Several designs are on the board. After all. The Monte Carlo is the Love child of the Chevelle.

  21. First of all the 2000-2005 monte style is the best,.... period! Those cheap lines r actually beautiful curves and that unstyled slab of a bumper is manly and makes the car a beast. This guy knows nothing about unique styling or cars for that matter. Fuck all import pieces of shit. Chevy is the real deal! Nuff said mother fucker!!

  22. I love all the monte carlo's he showed except the 90's one's they look like all the other Chevy cars of the time. My first monte carlo was an 84 with the 305. Then when I return from Afghanistan I had to get my 07 Monte Carlo SS with the 5.3. I love both of them.

  23. This article is absolutely terrible. No articulation. Expand your vocabulary before trying to critic any design. I could ask my 6 year old nephew to describe a monte carlo exactly how you did.

  24. This guy is sick in the head of he thinks the 90s version is better than the 2000 models.........I hate 2 see sum1 make such reckless statements........btw my 2001 Monte kicks ass

  25. 2006 and 2007 is a 7th gen MC. Whoever wrote this is retarded. That concept pic is stupid. But this dude picks 5th gen MCs over 6th so I wouldn't expect too much from him anyway. Nice try loser.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I too don't care for the concept Monte, looks like a modified Charger. Front grille out of proportion unless the car was blown and had an Intercooler, fuel, tranny coolers to bring into the airflow. the 80's and 6th gen. Monte's are the most unique body styles. No other car like the 6th gen. on the road by any manufacturer. Mustangs, Chargers even the new Camaro's are just so over done...They are everywhere, every corner every town.

  27. In response to this "'Im more than happy to admit that everyone is entitled to their own oppinion, but if you truly believe the the gen 5 is a better looking car than the 00-05 gen 6, then I don't put much into your opinion."

    I would say:
I like my MC's, dont get me wrong. While the 6th generation ( 00-05 ) may be a better "machine" (engine) if we discuss looks alone, it's not nicer looking than the 95-99 AT ALL.
The 00-05 car was the most horrid looking Monte Carlo ever (sorry to whoever owns one, this is not a personal insult to you, you did not design the car). The front end was the ugliest ever and the rear ,although like the 06-07, was even more bulky and unpleasant. The 00-05s that came without a spoiler was even worse than what I just described.
